The word Halloween or Hallowe'en dates to about 1745 and is of Christian origin. The word "Halloween" means "hallowed evening" or "holy evening". It comes from a Scottish term for All Hallows' Eve (the evening before All Hallows' Day). In Scots, the word "eve" is even, and this is contracted to e'en or een. Over time, (All) Hallow(s) Eve(n) evolved into Halloween. Although the phrase "All Hallows'" is found in Old English (ealra hālgena mæssedæg, all saints mass-day), "All Hallows' Eve" is itself not seen until 1556.
Set your Clocks Back One Hour.
Daylight saving time (DST) or summer time is the practice of advancing clocks during summer months (that feature more daylight) so that people get up earlier in the morning and experience more daylight in the evening. Typically, users of DST adjust clocks forward one hour near the start of spring and adjust them backward in the autumn.
Starting in 2007, most of the United States and Canada observe DST from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November, almost two-thirds of the year. The 2007 US change was part of the Energy Policy Act of 2005.
Election Day in the United States is the day set by law for the general elections of public officials. It occurs on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November (this does not necessarily mean the "first Tuesday" in a month because the first day of a month can be a Tuesday). The earliest possible date is November 2 and the latest possible date is November 8.
Veterans Day is an official United States holiday that honors people who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, also known as veterans. It is a federal holiday that is observed on November 11. It coincides with other holidays such as Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, which are celebrated in other parts of the world and also mark the anniversary of the end of World War I. (Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect.)
Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day; Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, while Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving.
Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday celebrated primarily in the United States as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. Several other places around the world observe similar celebrations. It is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November in the United States. Thanksgiving has its historical roots in religious and cultural traditions, and has long been celebrated in a secular manner as well.

As many of you know, our Chapter held a fundraiser in August for the DAV. We recently delivered a check to their leadership at their Atlanta offices. They were excited to see that our Club worked to help bring awareness to the organization and all they do for disabled veterans. As a result, the Atlanta DAV has invited us to attend their annual Veteran 5K this year on November 10th. at Piedmont Park in Atlanta. The U.S. Military Vets MC will lead the 5k on two wheels. I would like to invite your Chapters to be a part of this incredible event. Afterward, we will head to Good Ol Days bar in Cumming for lunch and drinks for anyone who would like to attend.
The 5K begins at 0900. Motorcycle staging must be completed no later than 0730. See the attached map for staging location and 5k route. I have already taken care of registration for our Club. No need for anyone to do that. However, if you plan to attend, I will need to have your Chapters final numbers by November 4th so I can give the DAV a heads up on the head count. They need an idea of how far back they need to stage the runners.
The Leathernecks and Armed Forces will also be invited to the event. It would be great to see 20 to 30 Brothers out in front. Make no mistake, even if it's only our Chapter, the U.S. Military Vets MC will lead the way but this is a great opportunity, not only for GA 11 but for the Eagle Nation.
