The word Halloween or Hallowe'en dates to about 1745 and is of Christian origin. The word "Halloween" means "hallowed evening" or "holy evening". It comes from a Scottish term for All Hallows' Eve (the evening before All Hallows' Day). In Scots, the word "eve" is even, and this is contracted to e'en or een. Over time, (All) Hallow(s) Eve(n) evolved into Halloween. Although the phrase "All Hallows'" is found in Old English (ealra hālgena mæssedæg, all saints mass-day), "All Hallows' Eve" is itself not seen until 1556.
Set your Clocks Back One Hour.
Daylight saving time (DST) or summer time is the practice of advancing clocks during summer months (that feature more daylight) so that people get up earlier in the morning and experience more daylight in the evening. Typically, users of DST adjust clocks forward one hour near the start of spring and adjust them backward in the autumn.
Starting in 2007, most of the United States and Canada observe DST from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November, almost two-thirds of the year. The 2007 US change was part of the Energy Policy Act of 2005.
Election Day in the United States is the day set by law for the general elections of public officials. It occurs on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November (this does not necessarily mean the "first Tuesday" in a month because the first day of a month can be a Tuesday). The earliest possible date is November 2 and the latest possible date is November 8.
Veterans Day is an official United States holiday that honors people who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, also known as veterans. It is a federal holiday that is observed on November 11. It coincides with other holidays such as Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, which are celebrated in other parts of the world and also mark the anniversary of the end of World War I. (Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect.)
Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day; Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, while Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving.
Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday celebrated primarily in the United States as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. Several other places around the world observe similar celebrations. It is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November in the United States. Thanksgiving has its historical roots in religious and cultural traditions, and has long been celebrated in a secular manner as well.

The first chili cookoff was the result of a disagreement between Roscoe and his roommate at the time Lil Hank as to who could make the best batch of chili. This was in November of 1986. Come shootout day over 12 participants had decided they too was the best at making the red stuff, so the contest began. Well not really much of a contest since Roscoe's was already eaten along with several others before someone decided that judges were needed. The winners of that First chili cook-off was Lil Hank (HOT) and Dawn Huffman (Mild). A great time was had by all.
“With respect for the seriousness of the Covid-19 pandemic and in the best interest of the City of Galveston residents, our patrons, vendors, sponsors and entertainers, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the Lone Star Rally this year to next year’s dates of November 4-7, 2021.
We have been closely monitoring local and regional news updates and discussing potential safety and health issues with city officials. With so much information changing daily, we believe it would be difficult to ensure a safe and fun event for everyone to enjoy.
We look forward to 2021 and promise next year’s rally will be worth the wait!”
